Field recordist Richard Alan Hannon captures the sound of steady winds blowing across the open latticework geodesic dome that spans ASM International’s headquarters at Materials Park in Novelty, Ohio on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. The dome, built with extruded aluminum pipe in 1958 with over 65,000 parts, is the world’s largest open-work geodesic dome. It stands 103 feet high, measures 250 feet in diameter and weighs 80 tons. Evocative Sound and Visuals is the place for unique environmental recordings, sound effects, and photography meticulously captured, thoughtfully crafted and passionately preserved by field recordist and photographer Richard Alan Hannon. Listen as high-quality recordings transport you to places you’ve been and locations you’ve only imagined. Eavesdrop on sounds not heard with the naked ear.

Sadly, our natural soundscapes are changing right before our ears. Share in Hannon’s appreciation for what we still have, in his discovery of places often ignored and in his work to preserve them for future generations.

Hannon’s interest in capturing evocative sounds found all around enables him to meet new people, experience new things and tell interesting stories in new ways. It is a natural extension of his work as a photojournalist. Hannon won first place in the Natural Disasters category of Pictures of the Year International’s (POYi) 63rd annual competition for his work during Hurricane Katrina.
